Features

It’s more than a timer. It’s a way of working.

Eggl gets out of the way. There’s no dashboard to check, no streak to protect and no productivity score to feel bad about — just the time you have left.

Ready when you need it

Bring the timer to the front from any app with a single shortcut, set the duration on the number pad, and send it away again. Your hands never leave the keyboard.

Built to aid cognition

Deep focus works best in bursts with real breaks in between. Eggl makes that rhythm easy to hold, whether you run 25 minutes, 50, or whatever the task in front of you actually needs.

Made for macOS

Built for the Mac and native on Apple silicon. It floats where you want it, behaves like every other Mac app you own, and stays out of the way of everything else.

Gorgeous in either theme

Two considered themes, light and dark, both minimal enough to sit on your desktop all day without competing with the work underneath.

Shortcuts

Four keys. That’s the whole app.

Eggl is optimised for people who’d rather not reach for the mouse. Every part of the timer is reachable from the keyboard, so starting one costs you about a second of attention.

Eggl has no idea who you are

No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and nothing to sell. Every timer you set stays on your Mac. Eggl isn’t a web app and doesn’t know a thing about what you do on the internet — and we rather like it that way.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Eggl free?

Eggl is free to download from the Mac App Store. There’s no subscription, no account to create and no paid tier waiting to upsell you.

Does Eggl collect any data about me?

No. Everything you do in Eggl stays on your Mac. It has no account system and never transmits your timers or your habits anywhere.

The only exception is anonymised crash data, and only if you’ve opted in to sharing analytics with developers in macOS settings. That data is used to fix crashes and is never sold or shared on. The full policy is here.

Does Eggl run on Apple silicon?

Yes. Eggl was built for macOS and runs natively on Apple silicon, so it stays quick and barely touches your battery.

What are Eggl’s keyboard shortcuts?

space brings the timer to the front from anywhere. Type a duration on the number pad to set it, space starts and pauses, and esc resets.

Can I use Eggl for the Pomodoro technique?

Yes. Eggl is a plain countdown timer rather than a rigid Pomodoro app, so you can run 25 minutes of focus and a 5 minute break, or 50 and 10, or whatever rhythm the task actually needs.

Does Eggl work offline?

Yes. Eggl isn’t a web app — it runs entirely on your Mac and needs no internet connection to do its job. Your timers are kept locally and never sent anywhere.

Does Eggl need any permissions?

Only one, and only for the global shortcut. macOS asks for your permission before any app can listen for a keystroke while another app is in front. If space isn’t bringing the timer forward, check System Settings → Privacy & Security and make sure Eggl is allowed.

I found a bug, or I want a feature. Where do I go?

Open an issue on GitHub. Bugs, questions and feature requests are all welcome — see the support page for what’s useful to include.
